Dhoon is a large country style lodge offering fly fishing for Atlantic salmon on some of Newfoundland's finest salmon rivers. The area the lodge offers access to is the water Lee Wulff pioneered many years ago. Excellent numbers of grilse and salmon from 10 to 30 plus pounds enter the rivers every season starting in late May and early June.
The Fishing:
There are 9 rivers the lodge offers access too. These rivers include Harry's, Codroy, Crabbes, Robinsons, Flat Bay, Bottom Brook, Southwest, Fox Island and the Humber. The fish average 6-10 pounds, however fish in the teens are common and twenty-thirty plus pound fish are often seen and hooked and occasionally landed as they will test your tackle and skills. The rivers of Newfoundland are all public, as there are no beats or pay for fishing other then the yearly license you must purchase prior to fishing. However, guides are required for any anglers who are not residents of Newfoundland. There is so much water available, that generally you're fishing alone. The scenery in Newfoundland is beautiful and the rivers wild. Abundant wildlife is often seen as moose, fox, black bear and even the occasional woodland caribou is spotted.

The Lodge:
Dhoon lodge offers home cooked meals and clean comfortable accommodations in a peaceful relaxing atmosphere. The lodge also offers a 9 hole golf course on the property for those anglers who also like to play a round of golf. The lodging is motel style cabins with all necessary amenities and satellite tv. It's not difficult getting a great nights sleep in Newfoundland as the evenings are crisp.
The original log structure of the main lodge was constructed by Bowater Pulp and Paper Company of England as a private V.I.P. lodge in the early 1940's to showcase the area's rich fishing and wild game hunting. The Lodge is cradled by the Long Range Mountains and is bounded on the east and south by Harry's River, a first class fishing river with magnificent pools and runs.
