Beginner Spey Class




  • Introduction
    Discuss rods (traditional, Euro, Skagit, etc), reels, lines and casting styles
    Introduction to the basics - stance and grip, lift, anchor, D-loop, 180 degree principal, etc.
    Demonstration of switch cast (the switch is the cast that is the basis for all other spey casts)
    Demonstration of other casts; single, double, snake/spiral, snap-T and reverse (opposite shoulder casts)
    Go over common faults and how to correct them
    Questions from students. Questions are encouraged
    Separate and begin practicing, while instructors rotate through the group
    Break for Lunch - an excellent time to meet your fellow classmates over a delicious meal
    After lunch, we will work separately with each of you
    Your skill level or what you'd like to address will determine what we focus on for the rest of the day
    Class ends at 4pm. We will have many different rods, reels and lines for you to try
    You will be given a card asking for your sincere feed back on how the day went
    Your feedback is appreciated, as it helps us improve each class

Intermediate Spey Class


  • Introduction
    Brief overview of basics; stance and grip, lift, anchor, D-loop, 180 degree principal, etc.
    Demonstration of the casts. Single Spey, Double Spey, Spiral/Snake Roll, Snap-T, Spiral Single and reverse casts (opposite shoulder)
    Go over common faults and how to correct them
    Questions from students. Questions are encouraged
    Separate and begin practicing while instructors rotate through group
    Break for Lunch - excellent time to meet your fellow classmates over a delicious meal
    We now work separately with each of you

  • Introduction
    Tackle & equipment discussion: Lines, leaders, sink tips, rods, etc.
    Water Conditions and how to select a fly
    Reading and covering water efficiently and methodically
    Presentation: casting and mending
    Streamside table lunch & refreshments
    Knots
    Helpful tips
    Brush up on casts

Two-Hand Salwater


  • Introduction
    Demonstration of the overhead cast and how to execute
    We will cover: stroke path, acceleration, drift, loop control, use of upper & lower hand & shooting line
    Demonstration of faults and how to correct them
    Demonstration of spey casts and how to apply them to saltwater
    Questions from students. Questions are encouraged
    Separate and begin practicing while instructors rotate through group
    Class ends at 2pm. We have rods, reels and lines for you to try

Underhand

Introduction
Discuss rods, reels and underhand lines/leaders

Explanation and demonstration of the casts; snap-T, Perry poke, reverse casts
Demonstration of faults and how to correct them

Class ends at 2pm. We have rods, reels and lines for you to try

Private Instruction

Private instruction is available on an ongoing basis. Lessons are held in the vicinity of Wayne, NJ and Albany, NY. We can also travel to you. Rates for traveling will be discussed at the time of your inquiry.
